: 109 Love-struck by her Beauty
Is she a fairy
angel or special specie of peahen or
lovely girl wearing beautiful ear ornament?
My mind is confused to make out what she is? 1081
As I looked at her slyly, she stared at me. Her looks resembled an angel bringing along
with her an army to attack me.
1082
I knew not earlier the form of lord of death. Having seen this girl with choicest feminine
features especially with the combating eyes, I realize now what it is. 1083
This girl gifted with feminine features that give an
innocent look, however has got conflicting eyes; which seem to eat into the lives
of those who look at her. 1084
Is it the gaze of lord of death or just the invading eyes
or of a dazed doe? The look of this girl
carries all the three foregoing looks. 1085
Her eyes will not give me the shiver-like pain, if
only the eye-brows cover her eyes in a straight line instead of forming an
arched shape. 1086
The silk cloth covering this girl’s firm breasts resembles
the veil, put on the forehead of a rogue elephant. 1087
My might that sends in shivers into the ranks of enemy
in the battle-field, has softened and bent at the sight of enchanting forehead of
this girl. 1088
Where is the need to adorn this girl with those jewels
brought from elsewhere, when she is quite pretty-looking with the frightened stare
of a doe and the feminine shyness? 1089
The heat-processed liquor makes one feel cheery only
when it is consumed, whereas the feeling of love cheers-up lovers even at the mere
sight. 1090
110 Understanding Her Mind
Gulping eyes of this beautiful girl have two
looks. One causes love sickness and the
other acts as a medicine healing that sickness. 1091
The fleeting sly
look of this
girl, is not just one-half of the pleasure enjoyed in a
physical union; but it is much more than
that. 1092
She stole a look at me and bent her head with a blushing
face, as if she was begging for my spirited love. That gesture seemed to water
the plantlet of our love. 1093
When I see her, she looks at the ground. When I do not look at her, she gazes at me sneakily
and smiles quietly within herself. 1094
Though she does not gaze at me direct, she takes a glance
at me sneakily rotating her one eye sideways.
1095
Though she speaks to me like a stranger, the words of
the one who does not hate could be made out very soon. 1096
The seemingly harsh words and a stranger-like looks
are in fact the signs of the one, who is actually in love but feigns as an unfamiliar
person. 1097
When I looked at her longing for love, she caved-in and
smiled gently giving a message of hope; as felt from the graceful glide of her thin
waist. 1098
The inclination to look at each other as strangers is
found only in the crafty-looks of true lovers.
1099
When the eyes of
the lovers
get focused mutually at each
other`s, the words of the mouth are of no use. 1100
111 The
Bliss of Embrace
The pleasures of sight (eyes), sound (ears), taste (mouth),
smell (nose ) and touch (body), related to the five senses can be experienced jointly;
only in this girl wearing the gleaming bangles. 1101
The medicine for an ailment is generally different
one. But for sickness caused by a dame
decked-up with jewelry, she herself turns into a medicine. 1102
Is there a celestial world more sweeter than the pleasure
derived from embrace of one`s love, gifted with bamboo-like smooth and shapely shoulders? 1103
When I withdraw from my love it feels hot and when I go
nearby her it feels cool, I wonder wherefrom she got this abnormal quality? 1104
The shoulder of my love decked-up with braided tress and
flowers; gives the feel of enjoying whatever things as are desired be me at any
given moment. 1105
Every embrace of this girl`s shoulders gives me fresh energy,
probably her bamboo-like shoulders are made of life-giving nectar. 1106
The fulfillment got by a householder, who subsists by
his efforts after sharing home surplus with the needy, is equal to the
happiness derived from a blissful union had with one’s love. 1107
Ardent lovers’ intimate hug that allows not even
breeze to pass through is very pleasant and wonderful. 1108
Those who succeed in love reap the benefits of love,
sulk, appeasement and a delightful union.
1109
The more a person learns, he discovers an element of
ignorance present in him. So also, every
physical union had with this lady decked-up with the beautiful jewelry gives a
new feel of the marital bliss. 1110
112 Beauty Celebrated
Oh, ‘Anichcham’, the frail flower, may you last long! The girl whom I love is more delicate than
what you are.
1111
Oh my heart!
When you see a flower you get baffled at its beauty. Look at the eyes of my love that resemble those flowers alluring the gaze of
many. 1112
My love with bamboo like smooth shoulders does possess
spear like eyes, tender-leaf like skin, pearl like smile and above all sweet fragrance. 1113
If the Lilly flower happens to see the beautiful eyes of
my love bedecked with fabulous ornaments, it will bow down in shame feeling average
and that it is no match to her beauty. 1114
My lady love wore the frail ‘Anichcham’ flower with
its stalk, which light weight cracked her thin waist; and hence the auspicious drums
will not broadcast her beauty any more. 1115
Confused stars of the sky drifted from their actual positions, in an attempt to make out between
the beauty of flawless
face of my
lady-love and that of
the moon. 1116
This lady does not carry any spot on her face as that
of the waning and waxing moon, which emits full glow only when its circle gets
filled up completely. 1117
Oh Moon, hail thee!
You too would become
my darling, if you do not decline
in your form but shine all the time;
like the face of my lady love. 1118
Oh moon! If you wish
to match the beauty of flower-like eyes
of my lady-love, please do not appear in public any more as to be seen by
many. 1119
Even the delicate ‘Anichcham’ flower and the swan`s
light-weight feather injure the tender feet of a lady like thorns of the `Nerunji`
fruit. 1120
113 Love’s Excellence
The liquid oozing through the shiny pearl-like teeth
of my lady-love known for soft speech, tastes like the mix of milk and honey. 1121
The relationship
that
exists between me and
this lady-love is like the bond of soul that sets the body in motion. 1122
“Oh you images! Occupying the black spots of my
eyes, please go away; as
there is no enough room to
lodge my lady love gifted with a good-looking forehead”.
1123
Union with this girl decked-up with the finest jewelry
feels like the life that breathes. When the separation takes place it feels
like death.
1124
If I forget then only I need to recall my girl
bestowed with battling shiny eyes. I
never forget her affable qualities. 1125
My lover is so subtle that he never leaves the pupil
of my eyes, and even when I wink per force he does not get hurt. 1126
My lover resides always in the pupil of my eyes. Hence,
I do not dare apply even the pencil liner to my eyes for fear it would hide his
image. 1127
As my lover always resides in the heart, I do not eat hot
stuff lest he gets hurt by the heat. 1128
I do not wink my eyes fearing that my lover`s image would
disappear. But the town men misread it as sleeplessness arising from his
desertion and they charge him as unkind.
1129
My lover dwells in my heart happily all the time. But this town populace not knowing the truth blames
him as loveless and alleges that he purposely keeps away from me. 1130
114 The
Loss of Modesty
Young men suffering love sickness have no other safe
way than to ride in public the `Madal’ (a dummy horse made of Palmyra leaves),
to force the girl`s parents to agree for wedding. 1131
The body and soul not
able to withstand the pain of
separation from one’s sweetheart, are ready to ride
‘Madal`- the fake horse ignoring one’s
sense of shame. 1132
In the past I did have sense of shame and
manliness. But today I am left with no
other option than to ride ‘Madal’ - the dummy horse in public. 1133
The fierce stream of intense love swept away along its
current the boat as strong as manliness, and its controlling rudder - the sense
of shame. 1134
Young
woman wearing an array of pretty small bangles, gave me
a worrying eve
of separation; besides the shame of riding `Madal`- the fake horse. 1135
My eyes not able to keep away from the thought of my
sweet heart, I do not go to sleep till late night. I keep awake all the time thinking of the
option to ride `Madal`- the dummy horse.
1136
Despite sea-deep distress of parting from the beloved,
young women prefer not riding the `Madal` (a fake horse) for fear of shame. Is there a better glory than the modest womanhood?
1137
The craze of lust comes up in open breaking the
barrier of secrecy, forgetting my steadfast reserve of modesty that deserves sympathy.
1138
My passion, assuming that no one was aware of the
grief of separation suffered by me, walks up and down the street exhibiting its
sadness. 1139
The foolish who suffered not my grief of love
sickness, keep laughing before my very eyes. 1140
115
Public Rumours
My life sustains because of gossiping, which fact luckily
is not known to many a native. 1141
Gossiping by the town about our love made it easy for
me to get the hand of lotus-eyed beauty, who till then appeared as one beyond
my reach.
1142
Will not this gossip about
our
love spread across the
town to reach
everyone? By such a public yell, I
feel having attained what I could not get so far. 1143
Gossip had helped our love to grow stronger, or else
it would have faded out losing its’ thrill.
1144
More one drinks liquor, the desire for drinking increases. So also more the love is publicized per gossip,
it adds to the happiness of lovers. 1145
We met only one day.
But our meet
is discussed by the entire town,
like the fiction of a snake swallowing moon believed to give rise to the lunar eclipse.
1146
Disease of love grows up fast in a girl absorbing the
gossip of town as manure and treating the mother’s scolding as water. 1147
The talk of putting out love by gossip is like dousing
a fire pouring ghee into it. 1148
Why should I feel ashamed of the gossip when the lover
who allayed me saying, ‘Do not fear’ had deserted me evoking the ridicule of
many? 1149
As the town raised rumour, I desired requesting my
lover to take me along when he leaves on business, which request he would grant
if it suits him.
1150
Karppiyal : 116
The Pain of Separation
“Tell me if you are not leaving me behind on a business
trip. If you want to tell me about your quick
return, better tell it to the one who would be alive till then to receive you”.
1151
During those dating days his look itself was a source
of happiness. Now even an embrace causes
me distress, for fear that I would be left alone on his looming departure on
business. 1152
To believe anyone
is very difficult, because separation occurs at times
even with the most understanding person
akin to
my spouse. 1153
He showered love telling me not to fear. If such a lover sets out on a task, can there
be a fault on one who believed his words?
1154
“Oh maid, if you want to save my life, see that my lover
goes not afar on his work. If he still
sets forth I am afraid that I may not be alive to reunite with him in embrace”.
1155
If he is
so heartless to
announce his plan to go away, my
hopes that he would shower love on me is of no use.
1156
Bangles that slide from forearms give an advance warning
that my spouse is about to set out on duty.
Should you (the lady-in-wait) also bring that message on his request? 1157
Living in a new place without close companions is
quite distressing. So also the departure
of one`s dear lover is more painful.
1158
The fire burns only when touched, will it do so when
not touched? The love sickness burns
even when not touched? 1159
There are many woman who agree to the lovers leaving
on business, and bear with the pangs of separation awaiting return patiently and
also survive till then; which I am not able to do. 1160
117 Pining
for love on Separation
I try to hide the love sickness, but this disease
intensifies like the spring water that swells despite its’ draining. 1161
I can neither hide the love sickness nor tell my lover
that he was responsible for it, for my modesty comes in my way to do so. 1162
The lust and shame have taken my life for support as a
bearer pole and they hang on at two ends, the burden of which constricts my
frail body. 1163
I have for company only me aching with the sea of
lust. But I do not find near me my beloved,
the safe raft to sail through that sea of lust. 1164
The maid who causes so much of pain even as a friend,
as not to depute a messenger to tell my grief to the
lover who stays far away; how badly she would react to a foe who harms? 1165
The pleasure derived from keen love resulting in a physical
union is as immense as the vastness of a sea.
When that love turns sorrowful due to parting, the grief suffered is far
greater than that. 1166
Despite my best efforts to sail through the sea of
lust, I am not able to
sight the shore;
even in the middle of night I find only me as a sole companion. 1167
This night has sent everyone into sleep. But it had
none for company except me, as I too was awake getting no sleep. 1168
The nights, which take too long a time to pass off
these days of separation, are far crueler than my insensate lover. 1169
If only my eyes could chase my lover to the place
where he stays with as much ease as my mind does, they will not float in tears.
1170
118
The Fading Eyes
It is my eyes that showed the lover who caused this distressing
love sickness, then what for should they shed tears now? 1171
Painted charming eyes not foreseeing the consequences,
liked gazing at my lover`s good-looks. Then
why do they grieve now the pain, which is their own making? 1172
These eyes enjoyed taking
quick secretive glances
at my lover. It is funny that they should grieve now for
not able to see him. 1173
These
charming eyes painted black
brought on me an endless illness of separation. Now
the eyes themselves are so
dried up that they are
not able to shed tears
any more. 1174
Eyes having caused me this love sickness, they
themselves are suffering the torment of sleepless nights, because the pain of
sickness exceeds the expanse of a sea.
1175
Oh! It is really
a matter of delight to see those eyes, which caused me the love sickness, experience
this bug of suffering. 1176
These eyes took
pleasure in looking
at my
lover with great interest and desire. Now having been trapped in the ceaseless pain
of separation let them drain their tears. 1177
My beloved who did not
love me in
the heart but only in
words
is still in the
town. My eyes
are restless and will
not be satisfied
till they see him. 1178
My eyes sleep not desiring to see my lover when he is
not in town. When he comes they sleep not again for the fear that he might leave
me any time. Either way the eyes suffer.
1179
It is not difficult for the town men to know about love
secrets, when the eyes of grief-stricken girls proclaim the distress of
separation; similar to a trumpet that broadcasts news in the town. 1180
119 Grief on change of Complexion
I allowed my lover to go out on his assignment when he
convinced me, but even as he left my skin turned pale. To whom can I open up my heart now to tell my
misery? 1181
This paleness is spreading happily all over the body
with pride as if it was given a license to do so by my lover. 1182
My lover took away the looks and sense of shame giving me in exchange the
love sickness and pallor. 1183
I always think
of him and keep talking about
his goodness. Still this paleness
has come upon me. Is it a deceit or
something else? 1184
Even as my lover left me and proceeded
in one direction, the pallor sneaked in from the
other direction to wrap
up my body. 1185
Darkness lies in wait to take over the day, the moment
sunlight fades out. Similarly, the
pallor keeps waiting to sneak in; the moment my lover slackens his embrace a
little. 1186
As I was in close embrace with my beloved, I slackened
a bit my hug to relax myself. The pallor
grabbed me in that trice. 1187
Town populace pity me saying that ‘ this girl had gone pale’, but there
is nobody to say that my
beloved deserted leaving me high and dry.
1188
My lover won over me to allow him depart on his
business mission. If the separation
helps him prosper and attain better status, I do not mind the pallor laying seize
on my body till his return. 1189
I do not mind even to earn the name as a pale girl, if
only the public do not slight my lover as runaway
and charge him an unkind person. 1190
120 Excessive Sorrow of Loneliness
When a woman’s passionate love is responded equally by
her beloved, she is said to enjoy a sweet seedless fruit i.e., the perfect bliss
of wedded life. 1191
The special caress showered on a sweet-heart by her
beloved, is like the benign pour of seasonal rains unto those who keep watching
the sky. 1192
A lady loved passionately by her beloved as she does,
she will exhibit a pride which signifies that she was blessed to lead a happy
life. 1193
A lady though esteemed by the virtuous will be devoid
of intrinsic worth, when not loved by her beloved as she loves him. 1194
If the beloved does not shower love in the same degree
as I do, what else will he do for me?
1195
The one-sided love is painful. It is sweet when love
is equal, like a bearer pole balanced with matching weight at both the ends. 1196
Cupid (the God of Love) appears one-sided as to inflict
pain of separation only on the ladies. Will he not notice the misery of pallor and
pain endured by lonely women? 1197
There cannot be stronger girls than those who survive
(despite the pain of separation), without ever hearing a sweet message from their
beloved. 1198
Though the beloved is not kind to give back my love,
even a single word heard in praise of him is sweet to my ears.
1199
Oh my heart, hail thee! You are reporting sincerely
about my sickness to the one who has no love for us. Instead better you try to pull out from the sea
of sorrow caused by separation. 1200
121 Lament
on memories
Love is sweeter than the joy resulting from drinking
liquor. The love delights one on mere
recall of the past intimate moments. 1201
The love is sweet in all its aspects, whatever the intensity. When a
lady in separation thinks of her beloved, no sorrow will distress her.
1202
Sneeze seems to erupt but fails in me. Is it that the beloved wants to think of me
but could not do because of the pressure of work? 1203
My beloved resides in my heart all the time. Will I also dwell similarly in his heart? 1204
My beloved who barred my entry into his heart, keeps
visiting me all the time. Should he not
be ashamed at his selfish conduct? 1205
Oh friend, do you know how I am alive still? I am alive because of the memories of those
intimate moments enjoyed in his company. 1206
If I am to forget the blissful moments of our union, I
am afraid what I would be? I do not know how to forget those sweet memories, and
the very thought of forgetting burns my heart. 1207
However much I think of my lover he chides me not,
which act I believe is the sign of an earnest kindness bestowed on me. 1208
My life ebbs away, thinking constantly about the
lukewarm attitude of my lover, who once assured saying; “We are one, not
different souls”. 1209
Last long O Moon! Do not get set early till I locate
my lover, who though set out on work with great fervor; he did not quit my
heart. 1210
122 Narrating the Dreams
How will I entertain the dream that had brought
a message from my husband? 1211
If only the fish like eyes painted with black soot
goes to sleep at my request, I shall be able to tell my lover about the secret
of my continued existence. 1212
My life sustains because of the dream meetings I have with
the beloved, who however does not pay me a visit when I am awake. 1213
The dream helps arrange happy union between me and the
beloved, who however cannot caress me during the waking hours. 1214
Happy unions had during the days of stay together gave
instant pleasure. Similarly the dream meetings also do provide instantaneous
happiness based on sweet memories. 1215
If there is no such thing as waking hours, my beloved
who hugs me during the hours of dreams will never leave. 1216
The cruel one, who cares not to hug me during waking
hours, why should he bother me in the dreams?
1217
When I am asleep my lover is in my arms. As I
wake up, he rushes to dwell in my heart. 1218
Those who do not see the beloved visiting during dream
hours, blame as unkind for not showing up
during the waking hours. 1219
Laymen blame my lover as an absconder. Will they not see
him visiting me regularly in dreams? 1220
123 Distressed at Twilight
O Twilight, hail thee!
You are not just the sunset but a lance that kills married women; who
are deserted to suffer the painful clasp of separation. 1221
Oh puzzled twilight! Long live. Your eyes emit no sheen
perhaps due to separation, is your lover too as cruel as my beloved? 1222
This pale twilight used to come before me trembling, when
my lover was with me. Now when I am depressed
in loneliness, it comes in a flash to increase my misery. 1223
When my lover is not there, the sunset comes in like a
killer entering the butchering hall. 1224
What good have I done to the morning for not causing
me much pain? What evil did I do to the
evening to torture me so much? 1225
When my spouse was keeping company with me, I was not
aware that the twilight would cause so much pain in separation. 1226
The love sickness emerges as a bud in the morning,
develops into a full blown bud during day time; and blooms in the twilight. 1227
Evening hours feel hot like fire to those in love
sickness. Cowherd`s flute turns a deadly
weapon playing the role of a messenger to twilight. 1228
The on-set of twilight that confounds my mind spreading
the pallor on my body, appear to plunge the entire town into misery. 1229
I keep alive thinking of my beloved, who had gone in
quest of wealth and fame. But I am afraid
that this twilight would force quit the soul, which sustained separation.
1230
124
Limbs losing Beauty
My Eyes have lost their glow shedding tears thinking
of my lover, who left far-off to ease our scarcity. The eyes devoid of shine shy away from appearing
before the bright aromatic flowers.
1231
The eyes brimming with dews-like tears turn pale as if
to let know the public that my beloved was not kind unto me. 1232
Shoulders that puffed up due to happiness following
the wedding day have now thinned out, and seem to announce openly to the world
about his parting. 1233
The golden bangles slip off the bamboo shaped shoulders,
which faded out losing their original sheen due to separation from the beloved.
1234
The thin shoulders allowing bangles to slip off have
lost their comeliness exposing the cruelty of my beloved. 1235
When people blame my beloved as cruel seeing my
thinning shoulders that allowed the bangles slip off, I suffer pain not able to
withstand the foul remarks. 1236
Oh my heart, will you take the credit of telling my heartless
spouse; about the peoples’ loud talk on my tapering shoulders. 1237
As I relaxed a bit the arms that encircled my love in
close embrace, forehead of the innocent girl wearing golden bangles turned pale
instantly. 1238
Even as the breeze cut through our close hug when
relaxed a bit, the poor girl turned pale in her eyes brimming with tears
fearing separation. 1239
The eyes not only went pale but also felt ashamed at
its slow response, seeing the speed with which the forehead turned pale. 1240
125 Speaking to One`s Heart
Oh my heart! Will
you not think over and advice me some medicine, anything and in any measure to
cure this mortal ailment? 1241
Oh my mind, I hail you. Our lover has no love for us but you being
innocent are worrying for him in vain. 1242
Oh my heart! Why
do you grieve with me sitting here expecting his return? The lover responsible for causing us this severe
pain is not inclined to feel for it.
1243
Oh restless heart! Go to him taking with you these
eyes. These eyes in their zeal to see
him are eating into my life. 1244
Oh my heart! Is
it possible for us to forsake him just because he does not give in return the
fervent love showered on him?
1245
O heart! When you see the beloved who brings you
happiness through blissful physical union, you do not feel like falling out
except pretending a false anger. 1246
Oh good heart! Please give up either the lust or
forego modesty, as I cannot put up with both the traits at the same time. 1247
O foolish heart! You are going behind our beloved
eagerly believing that unless our predicament was let known, he would not
shower love on us. 1248
Oh my heart, when the beloved is dwelling within you,
it is funny to see you go in search of him. Who you
will join? 1249
If we nurture the memory of one who deserted us as
bent on not coming back, we will be losing even our modesty besides the fading external
beauty. 1250
126 Loss of Self–Restraint
The door of virginity is kept bolted using the latch
of shyness called modesty, which however is broken by the axe of irresistible
lust.
1251
The lust has no compassion because it dominates my
heart disturbing my peace of mind, even in the middle of night. 1252
I do try to hide my passion of love, but with no
warning it gets exposed beyond one`s control like a sneeze. 1253
I believed that I am under full control of my lust. But my passion gets exposed in public breaking
open the barriers of cover-up. 1254
Dignity of not going
behind the lover who left on a business mission, is a quality
unknown to the love-stricken ladies. 1255
Alas! What sort of grief had come on me? It forces me to go craving for love behind
the one who had left me in grief.
1256
When our beloved returns and showers love that gratify
our lust, we forget not only the modesty but everything. 1257
The beloved is a trickster of many personal charms. Is it not his soft and sweet talk that turns
into an axe to split the womanly modesty to pieces? 1258
I went in feigned anger with a firm decision to fall
out from my beloved. But as I saw him my heart hopped over his side and I gave
up the tiff only to be in his ardent embrace. 1259
Is it possible for women with touchy hearts melting
like ghee in a fire, to be firm in their decision to feign a tiff when in
embrace and fall apart? 1260
127 Longing to meet the Lover
My finger has worn-out marking the days of separation
since my beloved left on his mission and my eyes lost their sheen keeping a watch
over the route of his return. 1261
Oh my young maid wearing gleaming jewelry, if I am
to forget this day my spouse who had left afar, my shapely arms will lose its’ shape further allowing the bangles
to slid off. 1262
My beloved left on a mission to win over enemies
having only the zeal as sole companion. I
am alive, because I keep looking for his victorious return. 1263
My heart being in a cheerful mood, expecting my
beloved to return with swelling fervor to embrace, climbs
up the top of trees to keep a watch over the path of his return. 1264
Let my eyes gaze at my husband to its full
gratification. After an eye filling gape,
the pallor grabbing my graceful slim shoulders will disappear at once. 1265
Let my beloved visit me just for one day. I will gobble him with all my five senses as
to drive out the pallor usurping my body with no trace of it. 1266
My mate who is as dear as my eyes were to return, will
I then fall-out from him, or forget myself in his embrace; or will I do both? 1267
Let the king fight a fierce battle to be victorious. Let me celebrate the occasion throwing a party
to the twilight hours, joining my sweet-heart in an embrace. 1268
To those who count days yearning for return of the
beloved who left afar on business, the passage of even a single day appears like
a span of seven days. 1269
When my love`s heart is broken emotionally, what good will it
do her even if she were to get me back or
meets me or remains in my physical hug? 1270
128 Suggestive
Signs
O my love, though you want to conceal, the charming
penciled eyes not in accord breaks off your self-restraint and seem to have a message
to tell me; perhaps about the looming departure. 1271
This innocent girl, a pleasing beauty endowed with
shiny bamboo like shapely shoulders, seems to possess feminine restraint much more
than what is normal. 1272
Amidst shining jewellery there is a remarkable beauty present in the smile of
this attractive lady; as visible as the thread that passes through the crystal beads
holding them together. 1273
There is a secret message of love in the budding smile
of this innocent girl, similar to the aroma sealed within the blooming bud of a
flower. 1274
In the girl’s playful snooping into the heavily laden
layers of bangles, there lies a hint about the remedy that relieves the pain of
love sickness. 1275
The apparent shower of love and ardent embrace by my
beloved give a hint about his looming departure on business and the likely misery
to ensue. 1276
The bangles sliding off my forearms probably knew much
before me, about the plans of my lover - the Chieftain of a cool retreat; to
set out on business leaving me behind. 1277
My lover left on his business only yesterday. But the pallor which crawled on my body since
his departure resembles seven days old.
1278
When I wanted to depart, my love just looked at the sliding
bangles, next at her thinning shoulders and finally at her feet indicating that
she wishes to go along with me. 1279
The wise say that restraint observed by ladies adds to
the grace of womanhood. It is true. My
love conveyed her mind to go along with
me through her begging eyes. 1280
129 A keen desire for reunion
The feel of extreme bliss at mere musing of intimate
moments of lovers, and the delight of gaze are the forte of a committed love; which
qualities cannot be found in the wine. 1281
A lady weighed down by intense passion as high as a
Palmyra tree, should not feign sulk even to a small measure as tiny as the ‘Thinai’
(millet grown in hilly terrain). 1282
My beloved does not heed to my words and goes on his work
as per plan. Still my eyes do not rest till they see him. 1283
Oh my friend! I approached my beloved determined to
show-up my dislike. But my heart went
out to unite with him ignoring my decision to fall out. 1284
My eyes do not see to the pencil that helps lining the
eye-lashes in black for better looks. So also I do not see to his faults, when
I see him near me. 1285
When I see him near me I do not see any fault in him. But when I do not see him, I see nothing but
his follies. 1286
No use of feigning hatred towards one’s beloved
knowing for certain that it will fail.
It is like one diving into the forceful current of a stream, knowing that
it will drag along. 1287
Oh my cunning beloved! The desire to lean on your
broad chest is same as a rickety drunkard opting for additional drinks, knowing
well that it harms the health. 1288
Delight of an ardent love is very delicate than the
flower. A very few people handle love gently
and enjoy its’ bliss. 1289
She exhibited sulk in her eyes which brimmed with
tears. But she flung into my arms and hugged
me with far more intense craze than mine. 1290
130
Chiding the Heart
My beloved’s heart stands by him endorsing his
decisions. Oh my heart! Why you are not
listening to my words to stand by me?
1291
Oh my heart! Having seen yourself that my beloved is
not kind, you still go behind him on the belief that he would not hate us.
1292
Oh my heart! You are not supporting me but go behind
him at your will. Is it to prove the saying that “those broke will have no friends”?
1293
Oh my heart! Who will consult you on love-making? You do not pretend anger at his unkind conduct
even to a small measure. You give in to his enticing words perhaps not to miss his
company. 1294
My heart is in endless fear of pain. When my lover is away, it fears at the likelihood
of his not coming. When he is near me, it
is restless musing over his looming departure. 1295
When I keep brooding over my beloved during the moments
of loneliness, my heart eats into my life all the
time. 1296
I ignored my self-esteem joining the company of foolish
heart that could not forget my beloved. 1297
The love-filled heart dear to me always thinks of only
about his good qualities on the belief that it would bring disgrace to self if
we disrespect the beloved. 1298
When the heart we dwell in does not extend its
support, how others could be of any help to rescue those caught in the grief of
separation? 1299
When our own heart stands not by us, the strangers cannot
be expected to act as our relations to provide refuge to us? 1300
131 Feigned Fights
Maid tells the lady, “Do not agree for immediate union,
delay it for a while. Let us enjoy for
sometime the distress he suffers”. 1301
Feigning a tiff should be for a measured duration and
stretching the squabble would amount to adding an extra pinch of salt to the taste. 1302
To leave unattended a lady who is already in distress,
just because she feigns sulk, is as good as upsetting her further inflicting a nerve-racking
pain. 1303
Not to show sympathy or failing to appease the one who
sulks, is like cutting at the root of a creeper which is already in withered
condition.
1304
The excess sulk of sweet heart gifted with flower like
eyes, is an enjoyable sight to the beloved bestowed with gracious taint-free traits.
1305
The love between husband and wife devoid of frets and
fumes would be bland like consuming either the over ripe or raw fruits. 1306
There is an element of misery in feigning bad mood,
for there will be a prowling anxiety that fears whether it would culminate in
sexual bliss or end in withdrawal. 1307
What for one should cry when the lover is not there
nearby to feel for one`s pain? 1308
As water is sweet and cool in a shade, the tiff is
sweet and pleasing only to the ardent lovers.
1309
I feigned sulk with the beloved but he did not appease
me. Still my heart desires to join him in a blissful union. 1310
132 The
Nuances of Sulk
All ladies would have enjoyed gazing at your handsome
mien. Hence I will not rest on your manly
chest that had become a common property. 1311
I stood apart pretending a minor tiff creating an
atmosphere of gloom. He sneezed expecting
that I would per tradition wish him to say, “May you live long”. 1312
I got garlanded myself with the ‘Kottup Poo`- a
flower traditionally worn by men folk. She
chided me saying, “You put on this flower only to impress some other girl”. 1313
I told her, “My love for you is incomparable”.
Immediately she queried me pretending anger, “to whom and with whom you are comparing
me?”
1314
I assured her, “I would not part from you during this
householder’s life”. Instantly her eyes
brimmed with tears, wishing for a long lasting bond even beyond this life span.
1315
I told her, “I remembered you”. She protested saying,
“How you forgot me to recall afresh?”
1316
I sneezed, she instantly blessed me long life going by
the tradition. But at once, she withdrew
from praise and asked me crying, “at
whose signal call did you sneeze?”. 1317
I controlled an erupting sneeze. She cried saying, “Some lady dear to you is
remembering you, hence you are stifling your sneeze”. 1318
I tried to persuade her. Still she blamed me telling, “Probably you
are like this even to the other women?” 1319
I was absorbed in the sweet past memories gazing at her
beauty in a depressed mood. She chided
me, “Are you judging me comparing with the physical features of someone else”? 1320
133 The delight of Sulking
I like feigning bad mood to make him plead and caress me
exhibiting his wide-ranging skills in love-making. 1321
Though my pretended bad mood at my beloved slows down
the act of love-making, the brief suffering caused by huff is welcome; as it
increases our intimate pleasure. 1322
A feigned fall out between true lovers results in a most
gratifying union, like the rains merging with earth inseparably. Is there a new world yielding greater joy
than love? 1323
The gentle and sweet words spoken by my beloved, act
like a weapon to cut through my bad humor. It results in an ardent embrace with
no mind to go apart. 1324
Though there may not be any fault in the sweet heart we
love ardently, there is an element of pleasure in withdrawing a bit from the
embrace.
1325
Digestion of food consumed earlier is good than to eat
again. So also to feign a tiff after an
embrace is sweeter than a repeat reunion.
1326
Defeated one in a huff is the actual winner. Men-folk by nature yield to their sweet-hearts
in sulk as to enjoy the pleasure of reunion thereafter. 1327
A satisfied union is evidenced by sweat drops
appearing on the forehead of one`s sweet-heart.
Will she be again in a huff to join me in one more embrace to sweat like
that? 1328
Let my bright jeweled sweet-heart be in morose
pretending tiff. Let the night prolong
to help me continue pacifying my love till it results in a blissful union. 1329
Pretending tiff with one`s spouse is a delight, before
the couple embrace and contribute equally to the ensuing physical union; ending
in a heart-warming and mutual gratification. 1330
